Vernon (LV) Smith

I was raised in Phillipsburg Kansas with all my schooling from grade school to high school there. It was while attending Jr. High school that my love for singing came about and my first solo was in the seventh grade singing “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra. I’ve never stopped singing from there on. I was raised in the church (Church of God) in Phillipsburg and sang at the church through out my years of living in Phillipsburg. It was at the Church of God that I became a Christian at the age of 12 and I’ve been singing for the Lord every since. In high school I was a part of the Madrigal singers as well as a member of the choir. When I married and moved to Salina in 1974, I became a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. While there I was active in the choir and sang as a soloist on numerous occasions. My job (Beech Aircraft) took me to Wichita, Ks in 1985 and I transferred my membership from the Salina Nazarene church to the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita. Since I’ve been there I’ve sung with the choir, with special groups, part of the Praise and Worship teams and also as a soloist. It was when I moved to Wichita that I also started singing the National Anthem at a number of sporting events around time town of which included: High School games (football and basketball), Wichita State men’s and women’s games; basketball, volleyball and baseball, the Wichita Hockey Thunder, The Wichita semipro baseball teams thru the years, the Wichita semi-pro football teams thru the years as well as the Wichita semi-pro soccer teams over the years. I have been singing for a number of years now as part of my own personal ministry at all the nursing and assisted living facilities throughout Wichita and surrounding towns.Perhaps my greatest achievement is being a part of a wonderful group of men who make up the quartet called “Four the Cross”. I’ve always wanted to sing with a good gospel quartet and the Lord has blest me to be able to be a part of this group. With Gods help I’m am looking forward to doing his will by singing songs that will touch the hearts of men and women who have listened to us. I enjoy singing and what better avenue to spread the gospel and be the example God would want us to be thru our songs and commitment to him. I look forward to many years of singing for the Lord thru our quartet as well as my ministry with the nursing and assisted living homes.
